Michelle Gaskill Hames

Michelle serves as the chief executive for one of the largest market areas in Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California Region, serving 340,000 members.  In this capacity, Michelle has accountability for the Kaiser San Leandro and Kaiser Fremont Medical Centers, as well as the ambulatory clinics in Hayward and Union City.  She has oversight of the market hospital operations, health plan services, and care continuum, including home health, hospice and pharmacy.
Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Michelle served as President of Advocate Trinity Hospital, located on Chicago’s south side and part of the Advocate Health Care System. She has also held leadership positions at academic institutions including Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Michael Reese Medical Center.
In addition, she has 8 years of healthcare strategy and operations consulting experience at Stockamp and Associates, Huron Consulting and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.  She began her healthcare career at the bedside as a neonatal intensive care registered nurse. 
Michelle holds a Master of Health Services Administration and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Michigan. She also holds a Project Management Certification from Harvard School of Public Health.
Outside of her career, Michelle is passionate about her family and dedicated to civic and community engagement.  Her husband is the Senior Pastor of Beebe Memorial Cathedral CME Church in Oakland.  Together, they are committed to addressing inequities in the communities where they live and work.
